A German Air Force PA-200 Tornado takes off from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Alaska on June 17, 2024 as part of the Pacific Skies 24 exercise.
The Future Combat Air System (FCAS_) is made up of the forces of Germany, France and Spain. The initial portion of Pacific Skies 24, Arctic Defender, hosted by Germany, takes place in Alaska, USA in cooperation with the US Air Force.
The exercise will move south and involve operations with the United States Pacific Fleet’s biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), the world’s largest international maritime exercise that includes the armed forces of 29 foreign countries. There will also be FCAS stops in Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and India.
There's a substantial amount of opposition to RIMPAC from indigenous groups that resent being colonies of imperial powers and their neighborhood being used as a practice battle ground.
