Sadly, the great American movie musical has become as extinct as the dinosaurs. Fortunately, celluloid, and now digital recordings have preserved the work of some of the country's most talented entertainers. In 1947 Paramount Pictures released "The Perils of Pauline", a fictionalized account of the career of Pearl White, the star of the original silent film series of the same name. With songs written by Frank Loesser and starring the indefatigable Betty Hutton as Pearl White, this is one of the great musicals of all time.
