CNN  —

The US ambassador to the United Nations said Sunday that China would cross a “red line” if the country decided to provide lethal military aid to Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

“We welcome the Chinese announcement that they want peace because that’s what we always want to pursue in situations like this. But we also have to be clear that if there are any thoughts and efforts by the Chinese and others to provide lethal support to the Russians in their brutal attack against Ukraine, that that is unacceptable,” Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told CNN’s Pamela Brown on “State of the Union.”

“That would be a red line,” she said.

Thomas-Greenfield also reiterated Sunday that the US is prepared to “compete” with China.

“The president has said we see China as the adversary it is. We are prepared to compete with the Chinese, and we are [prepared], when necessary, to confront the Chinese. And that’s what we’re doing. And that’s what we will continue to do to ensure that our national interests are always at the forefront,” she said. The national interests thus include battlefield success for the Ukrainians over the Russians.

Thomas-Greenfield isn't the only one advising the Chinese to stay out of the European special military operation. Others include US Secretary of State Antony Blinken,  EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell, Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Urmas Reinsalu,   Lithuania’s Gabrielius Landsbergis, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen,  German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and ministers from Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia and Finland.

Should the Chinese cross the red line, what will be the nature of the US and European response? Will it be tough talk, financial and economic sanctions, or the detonation of nuclear weapons? It would be nice to know in advance so we can all be prepared for our trip to Heaven or Hades. After all, hero Zelensky says that China's involvement on the Russian side will mean WWIII. Do Americans really want to tie the future of their country, society and children to the machinations of a dwarf foreign megalomaniac and the cabal of vampires that surround a dementia victim over an obscure section of eastern Europe that few Yankees could locate on a map?
